We arrived at Byodoin early on Sunday morning in order to beat the crowds. In case you don't already know, Byodoin is the building featured on the back of the 10 yen coin, although I have to say that it's much more beautiful in person! It was definitely worth the trip to Uji just to see this place.

Next: the last 2 parts of our weekend trip: Ujigami Shrine (another World Heritage site), and some scenes from downtown Uji
